Today We are in Florence after a short stop at the Leaning Tower of Pisa en route from a one night stay in Pisa itself.
This is quite an amazing place and definitely on the short list for somewhere to come back to eventually (money permitting of course). Florence is home to The Medici residence and much of their legacy to the city - Two palaces, a few churches & one of Italy's most important Art Galleries, Not to mention the impact such an important and wealthy family.
The streets definitely show this to all that walk them as this is the only way to properly see Florence otherwise it becomes quite easy to miss things, and to our advantage most of the streets have more pedestrian traffic than vehicular.
There is still a fair bit of poverty but it isn't as rife as in other cities, there are a few people though that I'm sure wouldn't mind stealing one of our cameras as there are so many photos to take!
A period of free time today saw us taking a choice of many galleries and sights to visit, Chris went to the Uffizi Gallery (where most of the work commissioned by the Medici's is housed), and Sarah, Leigh & Phillip went to the Academia Gallery to see the Statue of David.
Tonight we have a chance to sample some of Florence at night & Eat some fantastic Tuscan food!
Ciao for now,
Chris, Leigh, Phillip & Sarah.

ReplyDeleteGreat to read your Blog, it all sounds incredible. Not sure about the sleeping on the bus, imaging the sights you are NOT seeing ! Anyway, I am certain there are still plenty to enjoy. Good to hear you are indulging in some culture at the galleries.Stay safe and happy travelling only a few more weeks to go now. Cannot wait to hear you thoughts on London. Simon played his first round of golf here yesterday. Crummy course, more like a goat track ! he wil need to go back when they have their delivery of Golf carts in 2 weeks
Cheers Cheryl and Simon xx
